Our amazing leader and most of all our greatest mate
It is with sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we write this post in tribute to our Great Wheelbarrow Race Chair, Kevin Davies.
It’s hard to know where to begin to pay tribute to someone who was such a massive part of not only the great race, but all the communities and the people along the wheelbarrow way.
Kevin has been part of the race since the beginning in various roles, both competing and on the organising committee, and most recently the Chair.
He has run the race with his family and friends, sometimes in questionable outfits, but with one goal in mind, to push everyone, even strangers, to get to the finish line.
He was always there to help everyone.
He also got the race on national TV in 2024. He never gave up and always wanted more for the race and the people involved and of course the Shire as a whole.
Kevin lived and breathed everything this race is about – fun and fitness while helping others near and far. It was all about making a difference to people’s lives and that’s what Kevin did best.
He was our person, the person we would turn to for everything. He just knew what the right thing to do was.
We will miss and always remember his humour and leadership and most of all his friendship.
Kevin loved his community, the race and everyone who was part of it and In turn they all loved him.
We, along with many others have learnt so much from him. We will miss his guidance, Leadership and wisdom, his humour and his passion for the race and community, along with his determination to make things better and do better.
How lucky we all are to have known Kevin and this is what makes saying goodbye so hard.
We extend our deepest sympathy to Kevin’s wife Pauline and his sons Bradley and Liam, Mum June and all his loving family and friends.
We will miss you today and everyday Kev and I hope we all make you proud.
Thank you, the race would not be what it is today without you.
